Soul Detox: Language

"Lethal Language: Experiencing the Power of Life Giving Words," dealt with the second topic of the Soul Detox sermon series.  This, as the title suggests, was about the power of words.  Words can be lethal (toxic) or words can be healing.  The sermon encourages us to use life-giving words.  Tommy listed 3 ways we can detox our lives from harmful, toxic words: 1) Guard Your Heart Against Toxic Words, 2) Speak Life-Giving Words Every Chance You Get, 3) Speak Life-Giving Words to Yourself and Your Circumstances.

Soul Detox: Unhealthy People

The first topic preached on as part of our Lenten series, Soul Detox, was covered in two short sermons.  Take a look at the snapshots below.

Sermon 1 Snapshot:
The first sermon in the Lenten series, Soul Detox: Clean Living in a Contaminated World, is really two sermons.  Sermon 1, “Radioactive Relationships: Dealing with Unhealthy People,” discusses the Christian response to unhealthy people.  Though it might seem, after thinking of ways toxic people can influence and harm our lives, that we should avoid, ignore, or run from them, that, in most cases, would not be the appropriate Christian response.  The first sermon used an excerpt of Scripture from Matthew 9.

Sermon 2 Snapshot:
Sermon 2, “Radioactive Relationships: Loving Unhealthy People Without Getting Sick,” provides applicable and practical ways that we can remain healthy, and perhaps even grow more healthy, while also loving those people who are unhealthy and living toxic lives.  Being in relationship with a toxic person/people can be risky, so we always must use caution.  Using caution, though, does not usually mean terminating a relationship altogether.

Lenten Sermon Series

Our Lenten sermon series is Soul Detox: Clean Living in a Contaminated World based on the book and study by Craig Groeschel.  We have been, and will continue, looking at several different things that can be potentially toxic for us as Christians in a world with many contaminants.  In addition to discussing the danger of these different topics, the sermons provide practical ways to stay spiritually healthy.  The last sermon in the series will be preached on Palm Sunday.  As usual, the audio for each sermon has been, and will continue to be, posted online.
